Hudhayfa's narration is false because its narrated through al-Waleed bin Jum'ai who is perishable & we don’t see him knows who fabricate the tradition, he narrates some traditions telling that Abu bakr, Umar, Uthman, Talha & Saad bin abi waqas may Allah be pleased on them wanted to murdering the prophet by throwing him from al-qabah (mountain) in Tabook, verily this is a lie & fabricated.
Ibn hazem tried his best to discorrect this tradition, the most powerful point he could depend on to discorrect the tradition is to claim that the narrator al-Waleed bin Jum'ai is unreliable however I say that ibn hazem didn’t succeed in discorrecting the tradition because al-Waleed bin Jum'ai is a reliable narrator according to the Sunni school of thought.
Imam Muslim narrated from him in Sahih Muslim, so he is of Sahih narrators
Imam al-Bukhari narrated from him in al-adab al-mufrad
Imam al-Termidhi narrated from him in Sunnan al-Termidh & correct his narration
Imam Abu Dawoud narrated from him in Sunnan Abi Dawoud
Imam al-Nesaei narrated from him in Sunnan al-Nesaei
Here is some renown Sunni scholars narrates from him & accept his narration.
let us see now what sunni "rijal" scholars said about him:
Ibn Hajar said about him : truthful (seduk)
Al-Dahabi said about him: authenticated (wathkuh)
Ibn Mueen said about him: reliable (thiqa)
Al-Ejli said about him : reliable (thiqa)
Ibn Saad said about him: reliable (thiqa)
Abu Hatim said about him: his narration is good (saleh al-hadith)
Ibn Haban mentioned him with the reliable narrators
So we conclude that the tradition is correct & Abu bakr, Umar & Uthman wanted to assassinate the holy prophet according to Sunni school of thought traditions
